About

A project of consciousness, creativity & quiet enquiry

Beyond Body Quest is an evolving exploration of consciousness, metaphysical storytelling, and the architectures beneath everyday experience. It emerges from a long practice of spoken-word radio, theatre, and philosophical enquiry, brought together into a single unfolding project.

The work spans broadcast radio, experimental audio, creative writing, and the Reality Machine Thesis — a long-form examination of how meaning, memory, imagination and synchronistic intelligence interact to shape what we call “reality.”

Rather than existing in one form or tradition, Beyond Body Quest moves between them: part radiophonic essay, part metaphysical fiction, part philosophical investigation. It treats the page and the microphone as two halves of the same instrument.

About the creator

The project is written and produced by Alan James, a writer, broadcaster and long-time practitioner of spoken-word radio in Australia. His work blends narrative, philosophy and sound design, weaving them into late-night transmissions that explore consciousness and human experience from unusual angles.

Alan’s background in media, community radio, theatre and creative writing informs the tone of the work — a mix of reflection, experiment, and narrative openness, grounded in decades of real broadcast practice.

The wider constellation

Beyond Body Quest connects with several ongoing creative threads:
